Genealogy

A guide to selected genealogical resources at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.

Overview

This site offers a detailed overview of the many genealogical resources available at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library. The Library's numerous books, magazines, journals, newspapers, government documents, and maps are especially strong in Massachusetts and New England history. Although the W.E.B. Du Bois Library does not specifically collect genealogical materials, the research quality and the variety of its historical collections guarantee they are of particular interest to genealogists.

The Genealogy Guide groups the appropriate resources by the topics most meaningful to genealogists. Each category offers an introduction, selections from the W.E.B. Du Bois Library's holdings, and examples of subject headings to locate additional materials in the Library Catalog.

Genealogists can access all of these resources by visiting the Du Bois Library. Most of our genealogy resources can also be requested and sent to you via Interlibrary Loan through your local public library.

We are not able to provide genealogy consultations at this time. If you are in need of assistance from a librarian, we recommend that you reach out to The Boston Public Library
