Background
UMass has campus-wide access to a dataset, 15 years of the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Annual Survey data for approximately one year. The dataset was purchased by an individual faculty member but the vendor provided site-wide access. This is an unusual circumstance that benefits campus researchers for a period of time.
About the Data
The American Hospital Association’s (AHA) annual survey and supplemental data sets is the premier database for all information regarding hospitals and health systems in the United States. The AHA Annual Survey Database is compiled from a nearly universal census of United States hospitals through the AHA Annual Survey of Hospitals. This survey has been issued annually to all AHA members since 1946.
Accessing the Data
If you would like to use the dataset, please follow these instructions:
- Register with Wharton Research Data Services via this link: https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/register/. Be sure to select “University of Massachusetts - Amherst” from the list of subscribers, and use an institutional (UMass) email address during the registration process.
- The request is then reviewed and approved by the WRDS team.
- Once registered, go to the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) portal: https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/.
Access to the AHA Annual Survey data will expire on July 16, 2026.
