Student Meditation Facilitator Practicum - Service Learning 298-05
Spring 2023, 1-credit (pass/fail)
Tuesdays 5:30-7:00 (class)
Thursdays 5:30-6:30 (student-led meditation for the campus community)
This 1-credit, student-led, service-learning Practicum cultivates the skills, confidence, and experience needed to lead meditation (defined broadly) for the campus community. Through presentations, discussion, guided meditations, experiential exercises, readings, reflections, and personal meditation practice, the group aims to strengthen personal relationships and contribute to a contemplative campus culture, and ultimately benefit our broader society. Courage, creativity and authenticity in service to community will be a significant frame of class time and meditation sessions in conjunction with social justice and trauma-informed approaches.
Tuesdays 5:30-7:00 (Du Bois 1920):
Fundamentals of meditation/facilitation; practice leading cohort members; guest speakers from the UMass Contemplative Group and various disciplines/campus areas as well as members of the local community.
Thursdays 5:30-6:30 (Campus Center, Room TBA):
Student-led meditation open to the UMass community offering a range of contemplative practices followed by discussion.
