Evaluating websites

View information from the Web with healthy skepticism. To test the reliability of a website (or any source of information), look at:

  • Who are the authors?
    What are their credentials?
  • Currency: when was the site last updated?
  • Is what they say reasonable?
Is it biased? If so, do they say so?
  • Do they cite sources?
    Are these sources reliable?
Do they actually support what the citer is saying?

If you have any doubts about a website, please feel free to contact your librarian!
