Citing sources

Citing your sources is important for two reasons:

To properly attribute the words and ideas of others (and to avoid accusations of plagiarism);
To allow the reader to find the source for herself.

Simply providing a URL to an online source is not enough, because URLs often change and content gets moved. These resources will help you to collect citation information and format it in your paper.

Bibliographic management

Zotero
Zotero is an open-source bibliographic management tool.

RefWorks
Due to budget pressure, declining use, and increasing subscription cost, RefWorks was cancelled as July 31, 2021.

This record points to our Citation Managers guide where you can find help with Zotero and Mendeley.

Considerations that went into this decision include:

o Declining usage of RefWorks and continuing cost increases;
o Availability of free alternative citation management tools such as Zotero and Mendeley available to students, faculty, and researchers.
