Math Symbols
- OEIS List of LaTeX Mathematical SymbolsList of common operators, variables, geometry, functions, and other symbols used in LaTeX.
- DetexifyCan't find the code for the symbol you want to use? Use Detexify! You can draw the symbol in your web browser and Detexify will provide matches for the symbol along with their associated code.
Math Mode
There are two styles for adding math to a LaTeX document:
- In-Line Math
- Display Math
In-Line Math
As the name suggests, in-line math is for when you want your math to show up within a line of text (see the example below). To add in-line math, simply enclose your math in dollar signs $ -math- $
.
Display Math
Display math is helpful for when you would like to give extra space/focus to your math by having it on its own, separate line (see the example below). You can interrupt a paragraph with display math. The paragraph will continue below the display. To add display math, enclose your math in a backslash with an open bracket and a backslash with a closed bracket \[ -math- \]
.
