Avoiding Scams

IP applicants and owners should be vigilant against scams because the details of their applications (such as names, addresses, and filing information) are often part of the public record. This can attract fraudulent actors who send misleading notices or invoices that appear to come from official IP offices or legal entities, and may request unnecessary fees for registration, monitoring, or renewal services. Applicants should verify any communication directly with the relevant IP office or consult a legal advisor before responding or paying.
