Tools to Know About

Google Scholar
Be sure to manage your Google Scholar settings in order to access UMass Amherst licensed content from off campus! Click "more" for instructions.

Available on campus to all, or off-campus to UMass Amherst students, staff and faculty with an UMass Amherst IT NetID (user name) and password.

You can access Google Scholar with UMLinks buttons from outside the UMass Amherst IP range ("off campus") by two methods:

1. Access Google Scholar through the Library web site by using this link.
2. Go to generic Google Scholar.
a. Click on "Settings."
b. Click on Library links.
c. Type in "University of Massachusetts" or "UMass Amherst" (or a few other variations).
d. Check "University of Massachusetts Amherst - Get Full Text via UMLinks" and Save.
e. You will be asked to authenticate somewhere along the way to full text.

UMass Libraries Remote Access Bookmarklet
UMass Amherst Libraries has a bookmarklet that can be used to access licensed electronic resources from off-campus, without going through the Libraries' website. The bookmarklet works with Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari. From websites like JSTOR, Science Direct, or Google Scholar, you will be prompted to log in with your UMass NetID.
Unpaywall Browser Extension
Unpaywall is an open database of over 22 million open access scholarly articles harvested from repositories and publishers around the world. Use the browser extension to see if there is an OA copy of the article you are looking for.

ACM Digital Library
- This link opens in a new window
Journals of the Association for Computing Machinery, its conference proceedings, magazines, technical reports, and more, 1954-present. Includes some works published by affiliated organizations. Covers the fields of computing and information technology.

ArXiv.org e-Print Archive
Open access to 1,487,358 e-prints in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Electrical Engineering and Systems Science, and Economics.

Content is freely available for use by all.
Google Scholar
Use to access many UMass online journal subscriptions.
