Municipal law
Cities and towns also have their own laws and regulations, in addition to state and federal laws that apply. These are commonly referred to as "bylaws" (or "by-laws").
Bylaws deal with issues that are specific to the municipality, such as property zoning, traffic and parking, noise, signage, waste removal and recycling, parks, etc. Some may even have bylaws that further regulate upon state issues (if the state laws allow it) such as firearms or marijuana.
Amherst's bylaws can be found at https://www.amherstma.gov/207/Home-Rule-Charter-General-Bylaws.
