Research Books Online
Doing Research Online: Books
UMA WorldCat is a database that gives you access to books, articles, videos, journals, in one search. Books not in the UMass collection can be requested through Interlibrary Loan (see below) and must be picked up in person at the UMass Library.
The Library Catalog lists all of the books, journals (in bound paper form and electronic), maps, videos, scores, recordings, and other holdings of the UMass Amherst Libraries.
Ebooks
Many books are now avaiable in an e-book (electronic book) format. To find e-books held by the UMass Library, first go to the UMass catalog and then then click the "Advanced Search" tab. On the new page, click the down arrow for "Format" and select "E-Books." Your search will now be limited to e-books in the UMass collection.
In UMA Worldcat, conduct a search, and then look to the left side of the screen and click the box "E-book" under the "Book" heading. This will limit your search to ebooks only.
NOTE: Be careful that the book you want is held in the UMass collection. Books listed as being "5 college, Boston Library Consortia, or Worldcat LIbraries" are NOT available to UMass students.
Request UMass Amherst library books and have them sent to you through the mail. This service is currently only for UMass owned books and not media or bound journals. A great service for remote learners!
Create an account to request books UMass Amherst doesn't own or get scanned copies of articles from journals that UMass doesn't subscribe to sent directly to your ILL account.
NOTE: Books borrowed from other libraries must be picked up adn returned to person to the Du Bois Library only.
