LaTeX is a typesetting software, commonly used in the preparation of technical documents. Due to its ability to handle chemical and mathematical notation well, it is frequently used in many science and engineering fields.
Overleaf is an online LaTeX editor. Overleaf provides an intuitive user interface that can assist with creating LaTeX documents. Overleaf provides buttons that will insert the required code for different functions (e.g. making text bold, inserting an image, adding a citation, etc.) that a standard LaTeX editor does not have. As you type in your LaTeX source code, Overleaf will offer suggestions to assist with things like command names, file names, or common environments. It also provides assistance with managing the files for your project by allowing you to select and save the files to a unique collection. These features can make Overleaf a useful tool for those new to LaTeX. It is free to create a basic account (Note: with a free account you will not be able to do cloud-based collaboration).
