Genealogy

A guide to selected genealogical resources at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.

Overview

This site offers a detailed overview of the many genealogical resources available at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library. The Library's numerous books, magazines, journals, newspapers, government documents, and maps are especially strong in Massachusetts and New England history. Although the W.E.B. Du Bois Library does not specifically collect genealogical materials, the research quality and the variety of its historical collections guarantee they are of particular interest to genealogists.

The Genealogy Guide groups the appropriate resources by the topics most meaningful to genealogists. Each category offers an introduction, selections from the W.E.B. Du Bois Library's holdings, and examples of subject headings to locate additional materials in the Library Catalog.

Reference Librarian Melinda McIntosh created this site. She offers individual research consultations in the use of genealogical materials. Other reference librarians will assist visitors and researchers who arrive prepared with specific questions. However, the reference librarians cannot undertake extensive genealogical or historical research, or photocopying projects. Receive reference assistance by phone (413) 545-0151 or online through the Ask A Librarian email and chat services.
