Libraries' Map Collection

The UMass Libraries Map Collection houses over 120,000 printed maps, charts, plans, aerial views, atlases, and other cartographic renderings depicting the universe, the world, the oceans, continents, countries, all of the United States and major cities. Thematic maps include environmental and geosciences, land use, human and cultural geography, biogeography, economy, political boundaries, mines and mineral resources, recreation areas, travel and transportation, history, and many others. Maps of Massachusetts and its communities are emphasized.

MassGIS - Any and everything spatial about Massachusetts.

Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection - Housed at the University of Texas, this site contains over 11,000 map images of areas around the world on various themes, including historical maps. It also provides links to other map sites.

Houghton Mifflin Education Place Outline Maps - These maps may be printed and copied for personal or classroom use.

Print Atlases

  • To find a world atlas in the UMass Libraries, click on Books (library catalog) on the Library main page. Enter the term "atlas" and select "Subject begins with" from the dropdown box.
  • To find an atlas of a particular country or region, enter the name of the country or region and add "maps." If you're looking for a topical atlas of the country, add a term describing the topic (e.g., "england maps topographic")
  • To find atlases published in countries other than the US, add the country's name as a description (e.g., "atlases british").
