Finding Chemical Information

  • Reaxys is based on the combined content of CrossFire Beilstein (Organic Chemistry), CrossFire Gmelin (Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry), and the Patent Chemistry Database.  Searchable via a web interface, Reaxys contains more content and increased functionality.
  • Beilstein  A compendium of organic chemistry data on over 7 million compounds, including structures, physical properties, reactions, and literature citations, 1800-present.  Beilstein will only work on a computer with a UMass Amherst IP address. A dial-up account from OIT will provide users with a UMass Amherst IP address.  Searching requires installation of CrossFire Commander client software. This software can be downloaded from http://minerva.library.wisc.edu
  • CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics   Online version of the 88th edition of this indispensable reference for chemical and physical data. Current.
  • SciFinder Scholar  Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) databases of chemistry and related scientific fields. Mid 1800's-present.  Access available via SciFinder Web or SciFinder Scholar (client). SciFinder Web requires account registration with UMass Amherst email account. SciFinder Scholar requires download of client. License terms require that users connect to SciFinder Web or SciFinder Scholar through a computer on the UMass Amherst network. Off-campus access using the client (Scholar) is available via dial-up connections to OIT only.
