Find Federal Statutes by Citation
- Westlaw Campus Research Click on the "Law" tab and under "Shortcuts" in the left hand column, enter the citation, e.g. 20 U.S.C.A. 6301, in the top box under "Find" and click the blue "Go" button.
Find Federal Statutes by Subject
One of the best ways to seach for federal statutes is to locate recent law review articles. For a database list and instructions, click on the Articles tab above.
If you want to search for statutes by subject directly, follow the instructions below.
- Westlaw Campus Research Click on "Law" tab, "Basic Search" tab and enter terms that describe the subject of the statutes you are seeking. Under "Statutes and Regulations" click on the box next to "United States Code Annotated" for federal statutes and click blue "Search" button.
Find Federal Statutes by Popular Name
- Shepard's Acts and Cases by Popular Name (Ref. Desk KF90 S5) When you know the popular name of a statute, e.g. "No Child Left Behind Act", you may be able to find its citation using Shepard's Acts and Cases by Popular Name. This publication includes references to many, but not all federal statutes.
